I am coming down to writing the final few chapters of my book. Unfortunately for me, these chapters will be the hardest to write because they are on nutrition. Nutrition is not my number 1 field of study, so I have to spend a lot of time researching. Luckily, I have plenty of sources. One person's blog that I like to read regularly is Chris Mohr's. There is a ton of information there that is valuable. Recently he had a post on one factor that boosts obesity by 171%!
The article I'm referring to can be found here. The factor is your FRIENDS. The study that Chris refers to has found that if one of your friends becomes obese, then your likelihood of also becoming obese increases by 171%!!!
Why is that. Well, have you ever heard that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with? While it is obviously not entirely true, it is still surprisingly accurate. It has been said that this is common in factors such as diet and exercise habits and even income! That is why the staggering number of 171% does not even shock me at all.
One major key to fat loss that does not have anything directly to do with diet and exercise habits is your environment. If you surround yourself with people that are positive and supportive and do things with you, you are far more likely to be successful in your goals.
So... the lesson of the day is to surround yourself with likeminded people!
unfortunately, I can't find any like-minded individuals around me...what I do have, though, is people who are fatter and weaker than I telling me how my means of training and eating are "wrong," and I just "can't do that."
